Introduction to Surgery (SRG111)

Course Memo

This course introduces students to fundamental operating room principles, techniques, and skills. Students are oriented to the surgical environment, professional roles, moral/legal/ethical responsibilities, and medical communications used in surgical technology. Topics discussed include historical development, surgical asepsis, sterilization and disinfection, perioperative case management, and microbiology as relative to wound healing and infection and surgical pathology. Basic principles of electricity and physics are included to help familiarize the students in robotics and laser use. Co-requisites: BIO100, BIO163, ENG101, SRG115. Credit: 4 hours.
